Rebuilding Ireland: A Blue Print for Establishing Ireland as the most Competitive and Sustainable Economy in Europe

About the Speech:

At this extremely well-attended event, Deputy Coveny, Fine Gael\'s spokesperson on Energy, Communications and Natural Resources, presented the party's recently published policy paper Rebuilding Ireland: A “NewERA” for the Irish Economy.

This paper argues that the State must take the lead in dragging Ireland out of recession through a stimulus package targeting energy and communications infrastructure, which would create 100,000 new jobs by 2013. The investments would be made through new and restructured state companies, operating under a new state industrial holding company, the New Economy and Recovery Authority (NewERA), and would be financed largely from the national pension reserve fund.

About the Speaker:

Simon Coveney is an Irish Fine Gael politician. He is currently a TD for the Cork South Central constituency.
