About the Speech:

On Wednesday 21 Febuary, 2007, the IEA hosted a joint seminar with the Irish Competition Authority on the subject of promoting competition in small economies\' electricity markets.

Herbert Ungerer, Head of Energy, Basic Industries, Chemicals and Pharmaceuticals at DG Competition, European Commission, discussed the Commission\'s recent DG Competition Implementation Report with particular reference to its implications for the Irish electricity market. Jolanka Fisher, Energy Policy Analyst with the International Energy Agency offered observations on liberalisation of small countries’ electricity markets, drawing on the lessons from the case of New Zealand.
