The speaker

Bruce Hoffman is Professor of International Security at Georgetown University’s Edmund A. Walsh School of Foreign Service, Washington, DC. Previously he was Corporate Chair in Counterterrorism and Counterinsurgency and Vice President of the RAND Corporation. Professor Hoffman has advised the Coalition Provisional Authority, the Multi-National Forces-Iraq Headquarters in Baghdad, and the Iraq Study Group (Baker-Hamilton Commission). He is a Senior Fellow at West Point Military Academy, and is widely regarded as the world’s foremost expert on counter terrorism.

Context

This event is a highlight of our series on this on counter terrorism. Previous speakers included Peter Bergen (New America Foundation), George Joffe (Cambridge), Tariq Ramadan (Oxford), Magnus Ranstorp (Swedish National Defence College), Max-Peter Ratzel (Director of Europol), and William Shapcott (Director of SitCen). Counter terrorism remains a priority in EU justice & home affairs cooperation, as illustrated by the averted bomb plots in mid 2007 (Glasgow, London) and September (Frankfurt), and a high-profile arrests throughout Europe (UK, Germany, Denmark and Italy).
