About the Event:

The Minister for Finance, Brian Lenihan, delivered a €4 billion adjustment in the 2010 Budget, announced on Wednesday 9 December 2009. At this lively roundtable meeting of the IIEA Economists Group – attended by economists from the civil service, private sector, trade unions, media, NGOs and elsewhere – Prof. Fitz Gerald led a discussion which evaluated the Budget in the context of Ireland's commitment to restoring order to the public finances within an agreed timeframe.

About the Speaker:

John Fitz Gerald is Head of the Macroeconomics and Resource Economics Division at the Economic and Social Research Institute (ESRI). The President of the Irish Economic Association, he is also a member of the Irish Energy Research Council and of the High Level Group on Green Enterprise. He joined the ESRI in 1984, after 12 years at the Department of Finance.

Please note: This was a private meeting of the IIEA Economists Group; no transcripts or recordings will be made available.
