About the Speech:

The Prime Minister focused on successful reforms made to the Georgian economy. He stated that Georgia has created a business-friendly environment, it is one of the least corrupt countries in the region and it is on track for a growth rate of 9% by 2012.

Mr. Gilauri noted the lack of foreign direct investment from Europe or America in Georgia, and stated that the primary investors were the UAE, the UK, Turkey, the Czech Republic and China. The EU however, remains its largest trading partner at 25%. He concluded with a discussion on the energy situation in the Caucasus, where Georgia is emerging as a major energy hub. 

About the Speaker:

Nika Gilauri is the Prime Minister of Georgia. A former Minister for Finance and Minister for Energetics, Mr. Gilauri has extensive experience in the Georgian Government. Prior to his career in public service, Mr. Gilauri worked in the energy sector after graduating from the University of Limerick and from the Temple University, Philadelphia.
