About the speech:

In his address, Secretary General Zannier took stock of the OSCE one year after the Astana Summit, which defined a new vision for the Organisation as a security community in an age of transnational threats (TNTs). The Secretary General considered these rapidly evolving threats, such as terrorism, organised crime, cyber attacks, threats stemming from Afghanistan and weapons of mass destruction, and outlined the OSCE’s efforts to implement coherent responses based on the principles of building trust and encouraging dialogue between parties.

About the speaker:

Lamberto Zannier took office as the fifth Secretary General of the OSCE on 1 July 2011. Previously he spent three years as UN Special Representative for Kosovo and Head of the United Nations Interim Administration Mission in Kosovo (UNMIK) and from 2002 to 2006 he was the Director of the Conflict Prevention Centre of the OSCE.
