Counterterror & Police Cooperation in the EU

About the Speech:

Max Peter-Ratzel, Director of Europol, and Nacie Rice, Assistant Commissioner for Crime & Security (Garda Siochana), discussed counterterror and police cooperation at a meeting of the Institute\'s Justice Group.

This seminar was particularly timely, as this month the European Commission adopted a proposal that information on terrorism from Member States’ intelligence services should be transmitted to Europol and exchanged between Member States. Also this month, at an informal meeting in Vienna, EU Justice Ministers discussed whether or not the remit of Europol should be expanded to allow it to function as a European investigative authority with police powers.
