The Lisbon Treaty doesn't affect the C.E. scheme. The EU treaties currently say that the EU will help governments promote "a skilled, trained and adaptable workforce". The Lisbon Treaty doesn't change this objective. The Lisbon Treaty does create a new EU goal to work towards "full employment" in the EU.

Download audio podcast of the speech here.
Watch clip from interview here.

About the speech:

Jerzy Buzek, President of the European Parliament, spoke on the Lisbon Treaty and reform of the European Union, including the main items on the agenda for the European Parliament from 2009 until the next elections in 2014.

About the speaker:

On 14 July 2009, former Polish Prime Minister, Jerzy Buzek, was elected President of the European Parliament. Among the first Polish MEPs to be elected to the European Parliament following Poland's accession to the EU in 2004, Jerzy Buzek has been involved in many of the European Parliament's key legislative dossiers. In 2006, he was awarded 'MEP of the Year' by Parliament Magazine for his work in the European Parliament on scientific research and technology. His election as President of the European Parliament is of particular significance, as it marks the first national of an Eastern European Member State to chair an institution of the EU.
