About the Speech:

Mr. Machácek gave a Central European view on the Euro crisis and the roots of Czech Euroscepticism and presented his vision for a federal Europe. He also discussed the pros and cons of foreign ownership of financial institutions, drawing on the Czech example where there is complete foreign ownership of banks.

About the Speaker:


Jan Machácek is a journalist working as a commentator for both the daily newspaper Hospodarske noviny and the weekly Respekt. This year he was presented with the Ferdinand Peroutka Award for best journalist in the country. Previously, he lectured on Politics and the Economics of Transformation at the Anglo American University in Prague. Mr. Machácek is also a member of the board of Transparency International Czech Republic.
