Climate Change Working Group Event

About the Speech:

Francios Roudie, DG External Relations of the European Commission, will speak on the topic: International Security and Climate Change at the Institute on Thursday 24 April.

Mr. Roudie, co-author of the Commission’s recently published paper on the topic, will discuss the implications of climate change for international security. The paper argues that: “climate change is best viewed as a threat multiplier which exacerbates existing trends, tensions and instability”. It goes on to catalogue these threats including: conflicts over resources, risk to coastal cities and critical infrastructure, migration, radicalisation, and pressure on international governance. Finally, the paper proposes how the EU might respond to these challenges.
