Integrating Renewables Across the EU

About the Speech:

The 2030 Climate and Energy Policy Framework agreed by the European Council in 2014 set a target of 27% of energy to come from renewables by 2030. The European Commission’s Energy Union strategy also calls for the EU to become a ‘world leader’ in renewables. Klaus-Dieter Borchardt discussed the challenges involved in implementing these ambitious policies and integrating high levels of renewables in the energy market. Following Prof. Borchardt’s address, Garrett Blaney gave a presentation on examples of Irish innovation in integrating renewables.
