About this Event
15 Dec 2009 @ 12:45About:
The IIEA is conducting a study for European Commission DG Justice, Liberty and Security on non-legislative measures (NLM) to prevent the distribution of violent radical content on the Internet. This seminar discussed the work of INACH, the International Network Against Cyberhate. INACH is a network of organisations involved in the fight against discrimination and hate speech on the Internet across eighteen jurisdictions, both within and outside Europe. Established in 2002, INACH works by uniting organisations fighting against cyber hate; exchanging information to enhance the effectiveness of such organisations; lobbying for international legislation to combat discrimination on the Internet; supporting groups and institutions who want to set up a complaints bureau; and creating awareness and promoting attitude change about discrimination on the Internet through providing information and education. In addition, INACH and its members operate a network of contact points for complaints about discriminatory or racist material on the Internet.
About the Speakers:
Suzette Bronkhorst is the Secretary-General of INACH. She is also the Secretary of Magenta, a Dutch anti-discrimination NGO which has been fighting discrimination on the internet since 1994, making it the first NGO to have addressed this issue.
Ronald Eissens is a member of the board of INACH. In 1992 he was a co-founder of Magenta and in 1997 was a founder of MDI, the Dutch Internet Discrimination Hotline.
Both were involved in the creation of INHOPE, the association of Internet hotlines against illegal content on the Internet.
