About the Speech:

Energy Issues have risen to the top of the EU Agenda according to Steven Everts, Javier Solana's recently appointed special advisor on Energy Security and Climate Change, speaking at the IIEA on Wed 25 March.

Mr Everts deliveried a keynote address on the relationship between Energy Security and Foreign Policy to members of the Institute. Expertly illustrating the interrelationship between both he first showed how foreign policy is influenced by energy security with an overview of the recent Ukraine-Russia gas standoff and an insight to how energy security is shaping the EU\'s relationship with countries in the Caspian Sea region and Central Asia. Moving on to how energy security consdierations inform Foreign Policy, he looked at how nuclear proliferation guides influences EU relations with countries such as Iran.
