About the Event:

Wolfgang Proissl delivered a comprehensive analysis of Germany's response to the European debt crisis. He first discussed German attitudes towards Greece and relations with France. He then outlined a view of its domestic political dynamics and pressures in a year when seven crucial state elections will take place. Finally he considered the evolution of the European narrative within Germany and the country's rapidly changing role within the European Union.

Mr Proissl's presentation was followed by an in-depth Question and Answer session, which was conducted on-the-record and will be available for viewing on this page shortly.

About the Speaker:

Wolfgang Proissl is the Chief Correspondent in Frankfurt for Financial Times Deutschland (FTD). Previously he has worked as Brussels Bureau Chief of the FTD, Foreign Editor of the FTD, European Editor of Die Zeit and Economic Correspondent for Die Zeit in Paris.

In 2010, he was a visiting fellow at Bruegel, the Brussels-based European and international economics think tank, where he authored a monograph, Why Germany fell out of love with Europe. Before taking up his current position in January 2011, he spent time as a World Fellow at Yale University.
