About the Event:

Professor Bulkin, former chief scientist with BP, will examine the challenges in achieving Britain’s renewable energy targets in a speech entitled “Five Times More Renewables by 2020, Planning for Success”. He will provide a unique insight into creating financial mechanisms to support renewables, and unblocking barriers to delivery. This event promises to be an insightful comparative perspective of significance given Ireland’s target of generating 40% electricity from renewable energy by 2020.

About the Speech:

Bernard Bulkin is the Chair of the UK Office for Renewable Energy Deployment, the office tasked with the responsibility of ensuring UK compliance with renewable energy targets. As BP’s Vice President for Environmental Affairs, he developed BP’s clean fuels strategy leading to BP’s strategy and action plan on climate change. He is a Professorial Fellow at Murray Edwards College, University of Cambridge and serves as a Commissioner for Energy and Transport at the UK Sustainable Development Commission.
