"EU Funds Management and Absorption: Challenges and Prospects for Bulgaria"

About the Speech:

H.E. Dr. Meglena Plugtschieva, Deputy Prime Minister of the Republic of Bulgaria, addressed the IIEA on the theme of EU funds management in Bulgaria and the fight against corruption and fraud.

The Institute was privileged to hear H.E. Dr. Plugtschieva\'s comments on EU funds management, which are of particular benefit to our continuing research on Justice and Home Affairs Policy and Enlargement. 

About the Speaker:

Since November 2004 Plugtschieva has been Bulgaria's Ambassador to the Federal Republic of Germany. In 2001-2004 Plugchieva was the Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Forests. In 1995- 1997 and 1999- 2001 she was a Member of Parliament, a member of the Foreign Affairs Committee, Agriculture and Forestry Committee and the Environment and Water Committee. She was a member of the delegation of the Council of Europe. She began her careeer as an inspector at the Regional Environmental Protection Directorate in Varna. In 1984-1990 she was a Deputy Director of the Varna Regional Forestry Directorate. Between 1990 and 1995 Plugchieva headed the foreign relations department of the National Forestry Directorate.
