About the Event:

Carol Bellamy, Chair of the Global Partnership for Education, delivered the second lecture in the IIEA/Irish Aid Development Matters series on Empowering Through Education on Wednesday 15 February 2012 at 8.30 a.m. at the IIEA. Please note the earlier than usual time of this event.

Over the last decade, the Global Partnership for Education has put 19 million children into school, provided over $2 billion in financial aid, and built 30,000 classrooms. Ms. Bellamy discussed the importance of education for the future of a country and its citizens, and its critical role in reducing poverty and inequality, improving health, mitigating climate change and encouraging good governance.

About the Speaker:

Ms. Bellamy is Chair of the Global Partnership for Education, a multilateral partnership devoted to providing a quality education for children in developing countries. Prior to this, she served as Executive Director of UNICEF for ten years.
