 About the Speaker:

Dr. Bernd Pfaffenbach has been State Secretary at the Federal Ministry of Economics and Technology of Germany since 2004. Since then, he has also served as Personal Representative (or ‘Sherpa’) of the German Chancellor, Angela Merkel, for the G8 World Economic Summits.

Prior to his current appointment, he was Economic Policy Advisor to the Federal Chancellor in the Federal Chancellery, where he was Director-General for Economic and Financial Policy and also, from 2002, for Labour Market Policy.

At the Federal Ministry of Economics and Technology he is chiefly responsible for the areas of industrial policy, foreign trade policy, and policy on communications and postal affairs.

At this morning event, Dr. Pfaffenbach delivered a keynote address and joined in a discussion on the theme of The Economy in Europe.
