About the Speaker:

David O'Sullivan is one of the most distinguished officials in the top echelons of the EU. He was appointed as the Chief Operating Officer of the newly established European External Action Service (EEAS) on 25 October 2010. He has served as Director-General for Trade at the European Commission since 2005. Prior to this appointment, he was the Secretary-General of the European Commission from 2000-2005 and served as Romano Prodi's Head of Cabinet. He has also held a range of other senior positions since joining the European Commission in 1979.

About the Speech:

David O'Sullivan's address focused on the three major challenges  with which he is faced as Chief Operating Officer of the EEAS: personnel and administration; integration of policy instruments; and the adoption of the service to the transformed institutional and political dynamics of the EU post-Lisbon.
