“Coming of Age: Report on the Euro Area"

About the Speech:

On Tuesday 29 January 2008, the Insitute of European Affairs will host an Economists group roundtable discussion with Dr. Alan Ahearne, NUI Galway and Research Fellow with Bruegel, on the topic: “Coming of Age: Report on the Euro Area".

Dr. Ahearne’s address will be based on the recent Bruegel publication of the same name which he co-authored along with Philippe Aghion, Marek Belka, Jean-Pisani Ferry, Jürgen von Hagen, Lars Heikensten and André Sapir. The report surveys the economic performance of the euro area thus far and gives recommendations on policy challenges of major importance for the future of EMU.

About the Speaker:

Dr. Alan Ahearne lectures in economics at the J.E. Cairnes School of Business and Economics at the National University of Ireland, Galway. He also holds an appointment as a Non-Resident Fellow at Bruegel, the influential Brussels-based economics think tank, and is a Research Associate at the Institute for International Integration Studies at Trinity College Dublin. He is an invited member of the Financial Times Economists' Forum, the EMU Monitor group of monetary experts, and the RGE Europe EconoMonitor. He is Associate Editor of  The Economic and Social Review.
