About the Speech:

The issue of values and membership of the European Union is an ongoing debate throughout the EU Member States, including Ireland. The place of religious values in EU affairs and, more specifically, the interaction between the EU institutions and religious organisations such as churches, is a debate that merits further exploration. The Lisbon Treaty, for example, includes an article that would create a special dialogue with churches and religious organisations recognised by the Member States in their laws. This conference on Christian values and EU membership explored these and other issues from the perspective of two members of the Church of Ireland.

About the Speakers:

Prof. Very Rev. Canon Adrian Empey is Principal of the Church of Ireland Theological College and Canon-Precentor of Christchurch Cathedral, Dublin. Prof. Empey is a noted medieval historian and is the author of a number of publications. Dr. Kenneth Milne is the historiographer of the Church of Ireland and also an author of numerous books.
