About the speech:

DG Barrington briefed members on the European Commission’s annual Enlargement Progress Report for 2011 and the decisions taken in light of this report at the European Council Summit on 9th December. Two significant outcomes of the summit were the signing of the Croatian Accession Treaty and the postponement of a decision on Serbia’s candidate status until March. DG Barrington gave an overview of these latest developments and the prospects of candidate countries in 2012.    

About the speaker:

Anne Barrington is the Director-General of the Europe Division in the Department of Foreign Affairs. She was formerly the Joint Secretary of the North South Ministerial Council.
