Balkans group roundtable discussion with a Macedonian delegation

About the Speech:

On Thursday 6 March 2008 the IIEA will host a Balkans group roundtable discussion with a Macedonian delegation, led by Pajo Avirovic, Director of the Public Diplomacy Directorate of the Macedonian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Mr Avirovic will give an update on progress towards Macedonian EU & NATO membership. The current Slovenian Presidency of the EU has highlighted further enlargement among their presidency priorities, fuelling Macedonian hopes for a date for the start of accession negotiations within the next four months. At the 2006 Riga Summit, NATO Heads of State and Government declared that the Alliance intends at the next summit to extend further invitations to join NATO to those countries which meet NATO standards. Thus expectations for Macedonian membership by the end of the year are high.

About the Speaker:

Pajo Avirovic is an author and minister in the department of foreign affairs, Macedonia.
