Are National Champions Becoming More European? - Implications for Public Policy

About the Speech:

Alarm bells have been ringing around Europe in response to the apparent rise of economic nationalism since the beginning of the year, and questions have been raised about the consequences for the future development of the common market. Nicholas Veron, Chief Development Officer at Bruegel, drew our attention to a different and less aparent trend - the increasing Europeanisation of national champions - and explored the implications of this counterveiling trend for public policy making at both national and European levels.

About the Speaker:

Nicolas Véron is a research fellow at Bruegel (Brussels) and an independent consultant on financial services. He is coauthor of L'Architecture des villes. Matthieu Autret is a national expert at the European Commission in Brussels. Alfred Galichon is a Ph.D. candidate in economics at Harvard University. George Holoch is a professional translator and lives in Vermont.
