Saving the European Union - the Logic of the Lisbon Treaty

About the Speech:

Andrew Duff, recently re-elected MEP and former Director of the Federal Trust, launched his latest publication, 'Saving the European Union: the Logic of the Lisbon Treaty'.

The economic slump, climate change and worsening international security combine to strengthen the argument for the reform of the European Union. Andrew Duff put the case for change and argued that only a stronger EU will be able to tackle the problems Europe faces at home and abroad. Without a modernisation of the system of government and much deeper parliamentary democracy, the EU might fail.

About the Speaker:

Andrew Duff is a noted student and practitioner of EU politics. He uses his long experience to describe the Union's constitutional controversies. He explains and justifies the Treaty of Lisbon which, he argues, is an essential step forward for Europe.
