Tuesday, 29 November 2005 saw the Head of Sector Coordination Unit for European Neighbourhood Policy in the European Commission, Andreas Herdina, address the Institute on the ENP.

About the Speaker:

In 1999, Andreas Herdina joined the services of the European Commission. Working in
the fields of EU enlargement and external relations, he served in and subsequently headed
a Unit in charge of accession negotiations with Lithuania. For three years, he also led a
Task Force dealing with nuclear issues in the context of EU enlargement. He
contributed to the Commission’s good offices that facilitated the accession of the Czech
Republic by tackling controversies regarding the commissioning of the Temelin Nuclear
Power Plant in Bohemia as well as the Czechoslovak Presidential Decrees of 1945/46.
Since mid-2003, Andreas Herdina has been involved in developing the European
Neighbourhood Policy as Head of a Sector Coordination Unit that handles sector-
specific aspects of this new policy.
