Greek Perspectives on the Balkans Region

About the Speech:

Ambassador Mallias, Director of the South East Europe department in the Greek Foreign Ministry, briefed the Balkans Group on EU-Balkan relations. He noted the importance of the promise of EU integration in stabilising the Western Balkan region, and emphasised the need for continuing EU committment to the economical and political development of South East Europe. He proposed that the EU design an initiative similar to the Lisbon Agenda for promoting growth in all the Balkan countries, and that the EU raise its profile in the region in order to encourage civilian populations to support European integration.
