Agriculture remains a key issue for Ireland, for Europe and for European citizens. Food availability, food prices and food security, are vital interests. The economic importance of agriculture in terms of employment and expenditure must also be underlined. We are delighted and honoured to have the opportunity of listening to the views of Mairead McGuinness MEP.    Mairead serves on the European Parliament's Agriculture and Rural Development Committee and the Committee on the Environment, Public Health and Food Safety, and on the Petitions Committee.    Mairead is very active on agricultural and rural development, global development policy, the environment and food safety and security.   The specific issues she champions at EU level range from, the need for the EU to ensure security of food supply, double standards on food imports to global trade issues under the WTO.

The IIEA Brussels Branch will confirm the participation of other prominant speakers in the coming week.
