College of Europe [link]

The Institute of International and European Affairs is the Irish selection body for the College of Europe in Bruges and Natolin.

The college, which was founded in 1949, is acknowledged as a leading College for European studies. It offers one-year, postgraduate courses and following successful completion of examinations, students are awarded a Masters Degree in European Studies.

European Advanced Interdisciplinary Studies, comprising, in the second semester, the following modules:

  • Governance in the EU
  • Single Market
  • European Legal Framework
  • The EU as a Regional Actor
  • The EU as a Global Actor

The Department of Education funds the three scholarships awarded to Irish students to go to the College and there are also a number of fee-paying places available.

All applications received are given to the selection panel and are then shortlisted for interview. These interviews usually take place towards the end of March, early April.  Based on the interviews, the 3 scholarships are awarded to 3 students.  A number of fee-paying places are also given to Irish students and these are also awarded based on these interviews. The selection committee is not involved in organising funding for the fee-paying places.
