The Future of Europe’s Agricultural Policy - Old Wine in New Bottles?

The European Commission released its legislative proposals for a major overhaul of the Common Agricultural Policy on 12 October 2011. The major components of the proposals include a reform of the direct payments system to make it more equitable across member states and the ‘greening’ of direct payments, whereby 30% of payments will be devoted to environmentally supportive practices.
