EU long-term budget battles
28 Sep 2011Negotiations on the EU's next long-term budget (2014-2020) have begun in earnest. These negotiations have traditionally proved complex and protracted, given the range of competing preferences held by Member States across a spectrum of issues. In the midst of the Eurozone crisis and with a broadened base of actors on this occasion – including a European Parliament with enhanced status in the negotiations and an expanded EU of 27 – the post-2013 negotiations could well prove to be the most complex yet.
