Debunking Economics
16 Nov 2011Prof. Steve Keen gave a very thought-provoking (and entertaining) presentation to the IIEA's Economists Group this morning. The title of his talk matched that of his recently relaunched book, Debunking Economics, and he went about his task with gusto. After the event, we caught up with him in the Institute's garden to ask him a couple of questions about his critique of economics and about what needs to be done to solve Europe's ongoing debt crisis.
You can listen to a podcast of Prof. Keen's presentation on the event webpage here. The video is currently being edited and will be uploaded in the coming days.
During his visit to Dublin (kindly organised by ASPO Ireland) Prof. Keen was also interviewed by RTE's Pat Kenny. You can listen to that here (this link may change as the podcast is archived).

In the first video it seems that private debt creates economic growth via credit ?? However in healing the euro-zone crisis it is stated that private debt should not rise and should be reduced. Would it not create growth if more credit is given and once that has started then debt could be properly reduced.
