About the Speech:

Minister for Environment, Heritage and Local Government, John Gormley, will launch the IIEA Climate Change Working Group’s report: The Climate Change Challenge: Strategic Issues, Options and Implications for Ireland.

The report, edited by Peter Brennan and Joseph Curtin, is the fruit of a stakeholders consultation hosted by the Institute. It is divided into two parts: Part I contains three chapters on the international, EU, and national context for climate change policy; Part II is comprised of four stockholder’s submissions.

Four additional expert contributions were also submitted and will be published as Occasional Papers on the IIEA web-site. These papers cover the science of climate change by Rowan Feeley of ICARUS, NUI Maynooth; two papers on the economics of climate, one by the IIEA Research Department and one by Richard Douthwaite; and a final paper on flexible mechanisms and Ireland’s carbon fund by EEA and Peter Brennan.

The final chapter sets out three coherent strategic options and their implications for Ireland as it attempts to address the global challenge of climate change
