"Dr. R.K. Pachauri - Assessment of Climate Change: How Should Human Society respond?"
Overview:
Carbon Day at the IIEA offered the forty participants of the IIEA Climate Change Working Group an opportunity to present interim findings. Submissions will focus on the manifold ramifications of Climate Change and Climate Change policy for Ireland in the period 2012-2020. These findings were collated into an interim report which was forwarded to political parties for their consideration in drafting a programme for the next government.
Session I
Session I was opened by Dr. R.K. Pachauri, Chairman of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change. His keynote address entitled: “Assessment of Climate Change: How Should Human Society respond?" outlined the findings of the IPCC’s recently published 4th Annual Assessment Report. A representative from the Bank of Ireland responded. Dr. Rowan Fealy of ICARUS, NUI Maynooth, concluded the session by assessing the implications of the science of Climate Change for Ireland in the period to 2020.
Session II
In Session II, four IEA working sub-groups presented the interim findings. Presentations covered the following topics:
- the Economic and Social Consequences of Climate Change;
- Measures and Instruments (to mitigate greenhouse gas emissions);
- Impact on Sectors (of the Irish Economy);
- and Impact on Competitiveness
