Cape Town Convention and its implications for the unification of International Commercial Law

About the Speech:

Sir Roy Goode, acclaimed academic and eminent commercial lawyer, will lead a round-table discussion at the Institute of European Affairs on the Cape Town Convention on International Interests in Mobile Equipment and its implications for other projects in the unification of international commercial law. Sir Roy Goode was one of the key architects of the Cape Town Convention and has remained very active in the framing of the derived protocols needed to apply the Convention to aircraft, railway and satellite equipment.

About the Speaker:

Sir Roy Goode is a fellow of St. John’s College and Emeritus Professor at the University of Oxford. He is currently a member of the Governing Council of UNIDROIT, an intergovernmental organisation charged in particular with harmonising and approximating national commercial laws. UNIDROIT is preparing a draft convention on Intermediated Securities.

In light of the current markets crisis and continuing talks on the Doha Development Round, the globalisation of commercial law is once again in the spotlight. In the wider context of his address to the Institute, Sir Roy Goode will bring members of the IEA to the heart of the issues facing contemporary commercial globalisation.
